WeDu.ca Tamil Business Directory (“WeDu,” “we,” “us”) operates a directory that helps people discover Tamil-owned and Tamil-serving businesses in Toronto and the surrounding area. This policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect personal information.
Information we collect
When a business owner submits or claims a listing, we may collect the business name, representative’s name, business address, telephone number, email address, website, category, description, verification information, account information, and communications preferences. We also collect limited technical information such as IP address or a one-way IP hash, browser/user-agent information, timestamps, page URLs, consent wording/version, message events, and security logs.
How we use information
We use information to create and administer pending business listings, verify that a submitter represents the business, provide owner accounts, respond to requests, prevent abuse, maintain consent and suppression records, operate optional featured services, and comply with legal and communications-provider requirements. A submitted listing remains pending until verification and is not automatically published.
Business directory information
Once a listing is verified and approved, business-facing details may be publicly displayed in the directory. Private account credentials, internal verification records, consent evidence, and contact email addresses marked as private are not published.
Email and text messages
We send text messages only when the recipient has separately and affirmatively opted in, or has opted in through an accepted inbound keyword. SMS consent is optional and is not a condition of a free listing. Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP to opt out or HELP for help. We retain consent, delivery, and opt-out evidence as needed to honour preferences and demonstrate compliance.
We do not sell or rent mobile numbers, SMS consent, or personal information. Mobile information and text-message opt-in data will not be shared with third parties or affiliates for their own marketing or promotional purposes. We may disclose limited information to service providers that process hosting, email, SMS, security, or support for WeDu under appropriate restrictions, and when required by law.
Cookies and analytics
We may use essential cookies for login, security, form protection, and site functionality, and limited analytics to understand site performance. Browser settings can control cookies, although essential features may then not work.
Retention and security
We retain information only as long as reasonably needed for directory operations, account administration, legal obligations, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, and suppression of future unwanted messages. We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, but no internet service can guarantee absolute security.
Your choices and rights
You may request access, correction, or deletion of eligible personal information, update a listing, withdraw communications consent, or ask a privacy question by emailing register@wedu.ca. For text messages, reply STOP to opt out immediately; reply HELP for help. We may retain a minimal suppression record after an opt-out so that we do not contact that number again.
Changes
We may update this policy. The effective date above identifies the current version. Material changes will be posted on this page.
